Things to do and see

Elysian Fields has 6 acres of fields leading to countryside footpaths that take you to the neighbouring village  of Ashton  with it’s delightful 18th century pub and the historic village of Breage founded by St Breccia in the 8th century.  The golden beaches of Praa sands are just a short drive away as is Poldark mine and the Flambards entertainment park at Helston.  The old , picturesque Cornish harbor of Porthleven is also close by and on the short drive to Penzance you’ll come across the iconic St Michael’s Mount accessible by boat at high tide or a short walk across the causeway at low tide

St Michael's Mount

St Michael's Mount

This small island bears the same name as its better-known counterpart in Normandy. Following the apparition of the archangel Michael at the end of the 5C it has attracted numerous pilgrims.
The monastery was transformed into a fortress from the 15C; it then became a private residence when it was purchased by John Aubyn in 1647. The castle features a mix of 14C-18C architectural styles. The port and narrow streets below it are a hive of activity in the busy summer season.

Barbara Hepworth Museum

Barbara Hepworth Museum

This is the house in which Barbara Hepworth and her husband, the painter Ben Nicholson, lived. The abstract sculptures of stone and polished wood bear witness to a life devoted to this art. The workshops contain a number of blocks of stone that she had begun to work on. In the small garden, admire 20 or so bronze and stone exhibits.

Tate St Ives

Tate St Ives

This magnificent building (1993) enjoying a lovely view over the sandy beach of Porthmeor was designed by Eldred Evans and David Shaley. The asymmetrically shaped art gallery rises in harmonious spirals, offering a functional and light space in which to present its temporary exhibitions of contemporary works from London's Tate Modern.
